Anthony Petrello’s Rise To The Top Of The Oil Industry

Anthony Petrello, also known as Tony, is the CEO, President, and Chairman of the Board of Nabors Industries, Ltd.

Before joining Nabors Industries in 1991 he was with the legal firm Baker & McKenzie from 1979 to 1991 and was the Managing Member of its New York offices after 1986. In 2015, Anthony Petrello was paid $27.66 million.

Nabor Industries is an international oil and natural gas drilling contractor and is the largest one in the world. Its headquarters are in Hamilton, Bermuda, but it operates out of Houston, Texas. The oil fields it drills are on land, however, Nabor Industries supplies drilling rigs, equipment, and software to offshore drilling companies around the globe. Nabors Industries has drilling rigs in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and throughout the Americas.

Outside of his work, Anthony Petrello and his wife, Cynthia Petrello, donate heavily to research into cerebral palsy. Their daughter was born with this devastating disease which inspired them to help find the causes and treatments of it. In addition to donating over $7 million to the Jan And Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute, Mr. Petrello is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Texas Children’s Hospital where the institute is located.

A few years ago Anthony Petrello’s old college roommate, Lloyd Grove, recognized him on the Associated Press’s annual ranking of the United States most highly paid Chief Executive Officers. Mr. Grove, who is a journalist, wrote an article about his thoughts that his roommate had done so well for himself and his attempt to reach out to Mr. Anthony Petrello. He said the discovery gave him a bit of competitive anxiety that he hadn’t done nearly as well in his career. He ended up calling Mr. Petrello’s office, after being told he was out, received an email from his saying that he had just been lucky.
